St. Margaret Mary Catholic School: Return to the Classroom

Dear St. Margaret Mary Families,

The St. Margaret Mary Catholic School: Return to the Classroom plan has been created to aid in navigating the reestablishment of in-person education where employees, students, and families can feel safe and reduce the impact of COVID-19 conditions upon returning to school. This plan is designed to maximize both safety and in-person instruction and requires strict adherence to all recommended safety practices, including social distancing and the wearing of face coverings. Families that do not feel comfortable returning to in-person instruction will be able to have their child(ren) participate in remote learning, which includes synchronous instruction.

There are four guiding principles that are the center and the ultimate goal of the plan:

  1. Health and safety of all students and employees of St. Margaret Mary Catholic School.
  2. Continued support for students and families.
  3. Fulfillment of our purpose and ministry of the Rockford Diocese in providing a quality Catholic education rooted in faith to all students.
  4. Compliance with regulations and prudence with new regulations and guidelines.

This plan was developed with guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health, Illinois State Board of Education, Center for Disease Control, and the Rockford Diocese Office of Catholic Education. We understand that updates and modifications may need to be made to this plan; all updates will be communicated to teachers, students, and parents.

A global pandemic is something very few people have experienced. As a result of COVID 19, we have now been given the unique opportunity to grow, change, adapt, and ultimately emerge stronger. St. Margaret Mary’s teachers, students, and families have shown that Catholic education can continue to provide quality education, even during difficult times. As we navigate this difficult time, we must remember that we are one community, one family. Some families have been a part of this community for many years, and others are just joining us. We have watched our children grow and become faith-filled members of our community. We welcome the new families that are joining us this year; we are so blessed to have you at our school. We can’t wait to get to know you! Just as we have done in the past, we will support each other and help each other through this. Our school motto stands even stronger than ever this year #TogetherWeCanSTMM – because together we can accomplish so much. As we move into the new school year, let us be excited about what we do have: our faith in God and each other. We will come together and share that faith every day, united as a school community.

I know that I speak for all of the faculty and staff when I say that an abundance of prayer and research has gone into this plan. Thank you for working closely with us as we move forward with this plan. Our school will long outlast this pandemic if we work together in a faithful partnership. Together, we can walk through this next year trusting God, knowing that He is in control and with us always. He will help us become stronger than ever.

God is Good…all the time!

In Faith,
Brenna O’Hearn
