Dear St. Margaret Mary Families,
I continue to be amazed at the learning opportunities our students are participating in through e-Learning. Our teachers meet with our students online and check in with them each week. Students have adapted to muting their microphones and raising their digital hands when entering the classroom. Teachers are meeting 1-1 with students to provide extra support and in many cases delivering supplies to student’s homes. Students are actively engaged in lessons and as a result, their education continues to move forward. Each day I am reminded that together we can accomplish so much for our students and I am proud to be a Panther.
As we move forward, I know that you may have many questions. I have provided a list of questions and answers below. There are still some things we will need to address and organize as we come closer to the end of the school year.
Ribbon Day/Whole School Family Parade:
On Friday, May 1, 2020, St. Margaret Mary 8th grade students will receive their 8th-grade ribbons. These ribbons symbolize a new beginning for our 8th-grade students and a long-standing tradition. This year will be no different. On May 1, 2020, we will have a drive-up Ribbon Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Additional information will be sent to our 8th-grade families. All school families are invited to come and support the 8th-grade students as they receive their ribbons. We ask that you park in the west lot during the ceremony. Following the ceremony, we will have a family parade through the school parking lot. Details will be sent at the beginning of next week.
Students have been doing a great job with e-Learning over the last 5 weeks. E-Learning will continue until the end of the school year. Teachers are working with students in a variety of ways to ensure that students continue to learn and progress through the curriculum. Student work will continue to be graded. Graded work is a tool to check on a student’s understanding of the material. If a student is struggling and the work turned in reflects the student’s level of understanding; the teacher will be able to reteach the concept to the class or meet the student individually. It is our goal to ensure that all students continue to learn and grow through this process.
When will be the last day of school?

When will parents be allowed into the building to collect items?
On Friday, May 29, 2020, families will have the opportunity to sign up for the time to return to school to pick up their child’s belongings. The sign-up will be posted on School Speak and a notice will be sent to all families once it is available. All items will be packed up by the classroom teacher and placed in a paper bag with your child’s name on it. Bags will be available in the school gym and separated by grade level. We will require everyone to adhere to the following expectations:
Anyone entering must wear a mask (mouth covering) while in the building. STMM will not be able to provide a mask to visitors entering the building. Information from the CDC about masks or other face coverings can be found online at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
We ask that you limit the number of people you bring with you to pick up your child’s belongings.
Parents will enter into the building through the West Doors and exit through the Gym doors.
Students and families will not be permitted to gather to socialize or roam the building.
Designated tables will be marked to collect library books, Chromebooks and chargers, textbooks, and other school materials.
If families fail to collect belongings on this date, the school will make alternative arrangements with families to collect the items.
