July Summer Letter / Supply List

Dear Saint Margaret Mary School Families,

My hope is that I find you all relaxing and enjoying summer activities with your family. The school has been very quiet as we prepare for a new school year and we are looking forward to your return. Attached you will find the school supply list for the 2019 – 2020 school year.

Our first day of school is Monday, August 19 with a full day of school. Our Before/After Care program will begin that day for those who are registered by that time. If you are intending to use the Care program please plan to register at Back to School Night on Friday, August 16. Paperwork can also be found on our school website and scanned or mailed back to the school. Our full school calendar can be found on our school website, Please note that this calendar does not include a half day release time schedule for our students. At this time we are still waiting on additional information from the State of Illinois. Our online calendar is an active calendar which is updated as new dates become available or if changes are needed so please check it often.

Please attend our “Back to School Night” a summer cookout and supply drop off on August 16. Supply drop off will run from 3:00 – 6:00 pm followed by the Knights of Columbus BBQ from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. You will be able to find out who your student(s) teacher is, register for before/after care, 5th-8th school sports and band, purchase used uniforms, and signup for milk for lunch.

Papa Saverios will continue to be our hot lunch provider. All hot lunch payments will be processed by Papa Saverio’s website. Tuition and school payments will be processed through your FACTs account.

This summer we have been busy updating and cleaning areas of the school in the effort of serving our students and families better. Through our fundraising efforts we have been able to purchase the following items for our school:

• Air Conditioners for several classrooms
• Typing Club program for Technology
• WeVideo program for student video programming
• Over the Ear Headphones (4) for our Kindergarten classroom
• Flexible seating for several classrooms
• Mathematics Magnet Chart
• New Preschool Fence *pending installation

Thank you to all our families in supporting our fundraising efforts or our educational programming.

Summer Health Forms Reminder:

• New Preschool – Physical forms
• Kindergarten – Physical, dental, vision forms
• 2nd Grade – Dental forms
• 6th Grade – Physician and dental forms
• Athletes – Physical

*All forms are due on or before the first day of school.

In July, the school office will be closed from June 27 – July 12. Beginning on July 15 we will be open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 – 2:00 and starting July 29 the office will be open from 8:00 – 3:00 Monday – Friday. Normal business hours will resume on August 19.

The following dates are important to note.

• Friday, August 16 – Supply Drop Off and Back to School BBQ
o 4:00 – 5:30 PM- Supply Drop Off
§ Kindergarten- 8th grade anytime between 4:00 and 5:30 PM/ Preschool 3’s between 4:00 – 4:30 PM and Preschool 4’s between 4:45 – 5:15 PM.
o 5:30 – New Family Meeting in Lunch Room
o 5:00 – 7:00 PM Back to School BBQ
§ Knights of Columbus sponsored “grill out”
§ Class lists posted on the hallway wall
§ Milk can be ordered
§ Sports registration paperwork and fees can be paid
§ Before/After School Care registration handled
§ Beginning of the year information handed out
§ Used uniforms can be purchased
§ Tables to assist you with family stewardship sign-up and hot lunch ordering
§ Advisory Board and Home and School available

o School begins for preschool (MWF – 4’s and Full Day/Half Day)- 8th-grade students
o Busing and Before/After Care Program begins
o Mass at 9:15 followed by Eucharistic Procession to the school.

• Tuesday, August 20, 2019
o Pre-3 classes begin at 8:45
o Hot Lunch training and required annual bloodborne pathogen video training at 9:15 AM

Wednesday, August 21, 2019
o Recess training and required annual bloodborne pathogen video training at 9:15 AM

Friday, August 23, 2019
o No afternoon bus service

Monday, September 2, 2019
o No School – Labor Day

• Thursday, September 5, 2019

o Parent Information Night – Preschool – 8th grade

This is a parent only night beginning in the gym and then providing an opportunity to go to the classrooms. Please attend both the meeting and classroom portion of this night. During the meeting, we will be reviewing some of the changes to the handbook events throughout the school year. It is important that parents attend the meeting.

All school families are required to give 20 volunteer hours per year (10 hours for preschool only families). You may sign up for your hours through School Speak. We especially need hot lunch servers and recess volunteers. These positions provide a great way to see your child in the day, and we do allow volunteers to bring their little ones along when they volunteer in these positions.

Please enjoy the remaining days of summer and I will see all your smiling faces in August. Mrs. Mobeck, Mrs. Przybylski and I are always here to answer any questions you have. You can contact us in person, by phone, or by e-mail. I especially would like to welcome all of our new families and encourage you to ask questions throughout the year whenever they arise.
