Catholic Schools Week 2020: January 26 ~ January 31


All Week: “Catholic Schools Week Book Drive”

This Catholic Schools’ Week, help us team up with other Diocesan schools to donate new or gently used books for preschool through eighth-grade students! All donations will be sent to poor, inner-city schools where many children can’t afford to buy their own books.

Sunday, January 26, 2020 – Celebrating Our St. Margaret Mary Parish
Family Mass – 11:00 Catholic schools benefit all year long from the religious guidance, prayers, and support parishes provide. St. Margaret Mary will be joining many parishes throughout the nation to celebrate National Catholic Schools Week by devoting a Mass to Catholic education. Students are asked to attend this Mass in their school uniforms.

School Open House following the Family Mass – 12:30 – 2:00 The entire parish and community are invited to visit Saint Margaret Mary School to see how we teach our students about their Catholic faith, maintain excellence in academics, and teach students the stewardship way of life. Our teachers will be in their classrooms ready to answer any questions you have about St. Margaret Mary School. Please join us and invite new families to come to see what makes our school special! Students who attend both the Mass AND Open House IN THEIR SCHOOL UNIFORMS will receive a “Free Dress Pass” from their homeroom teacher. You can only pick up your dress pass in person on the day of the Open House and Mass.

Classroom door decorating contest – during the open house, the teachers will have their doors decorated for Catholic Schools Week. Voting will be going on throughout the open house.

Skate Night – Join us at Extream Wheels (Crystal Lake) for Skate Night from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Monday, January 27: We Celebrate Our Community
ALL SCHOOL DRESS: Movie Character Day – Students are encouraged to dress as their favorite movie character. Movie characters selected should be appropriate for school. Students must still be dressed appropriately and follow dress code guidelines. If students do not want to participate in the Movie Character Day, a school uniform must be worn.
Activity: Each grade will be creating a thank you packet for members in our community. One student representative from each class will go into the community after school to deliver the thank you packets.

Tuesday, January 28: We Celebrate our St. Margaret Mary Students
ALL SCHOOL DRESS THEME: Tourist Day/Vacation of the Stars – Students may dress in their best tourist dress and accessories. Students must still be dressed appropriately for school and follow dress code guidelines. If students do not want to participate in the theme day, a school uniform must be worn.
Student treat –Students will receive a special treat provided by our Home and School Association.

Lunch will be provided by Home and School.

In the afternoon all classes will attend a variety show hosted by the 8th grade. Parents will be invited to attend a variety show. Time: TBD

Wednesday, January 29: We Celebrate our St. Margaret Mary Staff
ALL SCHOOL DRESS THEME: Spirit Wear Day – Students must still be dressed appropriately for school and follow dress code guidelines. If students do not want to participate in the theme day, a school uniform must be worn.
There will be no hot lunch today. Every student must bring lunch.
Saint Margaret Mary Staff will attend a special luncheon hosted by the Home and School Association.
Lunch and recess coverage will be provided by Home and School and volunteers.

Thursday, January 30: We Celebrate our Catholic Vocations and Faith History ALL SCHOOL DRESS: Comfy Day – Students must still be dressed appropriately for school and follow dress code guidelines. If students do not want to participate in the theme day, a school uniform must be worn.

Students in grades 5 and 7 will be attending the deanery Mass at Marian. These students will need to be in full uniform this day. The make-up day for comfy cozy day will be Monday, February 3, 2020.

Students will have Adoration this day.

Friday, January 31: Celebrating our Parents and Families
PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to attend all events that are scheduled for Friday. 

Preschool 3 (T/TH) students will have their family classroom visit day on Tuesday, February 4 from 11:00 – 11:15 am.  Parents are invited to visit the classroom and enjoy a story with their child.
ALL SCHOOL DRESS: Mass day – Students must be in their school uniforms this day when attending Mass.

This day students will attend Mass with their families. Students will report directly to Mass. If a student is not attending Mass with his/her family, they should report to school as usual. Students will be sitting with their families during the Mass and will then report to their teacher before returning to school.
Service Opportunity:
Junior High Students may sign up to help with lunch set up in the gym at 8:00 – 8:40. There will be a sign-up sheet in the school office.  Space will be limited.
9:15 Family Mass  (information slips are being sent home in the brown envelope)
10:15– 11: 00 Family Activity in the classrooms
• Individual classroom visits
• Junior High will be in the gym playing bingo
11:00– 11:20 Break
• Students in classrooms with teachers
• Parents may leave to pick up lunch or select a table in the designated areas.
11:30 – 12:00 Lunch – NOTE = LUNCH DELIVERIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ON THIS DAY
• Lunch spots – Lunch Room, Gym, Stage
• Families are invited to share lunch with their child(ren) in one of the designated areas. Grandparents, aunts, or uncles are invited to step in if a parent cannot attend. If no adult member of your family can attend, your child will be allowed to sit with a friend’s family for lunch.
12:00 – 12:20 Recess
• Recess will be in the classrooms
• Clean up of the gym will take place at this time. Parents are invited to help clean up the eating areas.
12:30 – 1:15 Assembly
• Dodge Ball/ Student Activities
1:30 – 3:00 Student Movie and Popcorn in the gym
