School News & Events

Principal Notes – May 5, 2019

Dear St. Margaret Mary Families,

Congratulations to all our 2nd-grade students that made their First Communion this weekend.

Believe it or not, we have just 3 more weeks of school.  This is one of the busiest times in our building and we will be sending frequent updates and reminders as events approach.

Orange Ruler – WOW! Thank you to all the families that are participating in our Orange Ruler fundraiser.  We have reached $9,000  of our $15,000 goal.  Signing up and sending our emails is easy, it just takes about five minutes of your time.  Every email helps the school take another step closer to our goal.  The money raised during this event will help purchase new uniforms for athletics as well as support the educational program at our school.  We are in the home stretch, let’s work together to reach our goal.  On Friday, May 10 ALL students will be participating in the Orange Ruler run in the afternoon.  Students are to come to school in their school uniforms and after mass students will be permitted to change into their fun run clothing.  We are encouraging all student to dress in ORANGE for the fun run.  Don’t have an orange t-shirt…..that’s okay, just bring clothing to run in.

Art Auction/ Golf Outing – The weather is perfect for GOLF.  Be sure to sign up for the golf outing.  Following the gold outing, there will be a banquet dinner and art auction.  The auction will feature one of a kind student student-made artwork.

Why so many fundraisers?  This has been a frequent question and an important one to our school. Every year the school works to raise money not covered by our tuition and fees.  The cost of education is about  $5,500.00 per student.  This means that as a school community we need to raise the difference in the tuition rate.  The fundraisers also help purchase items that are not covered in the current budget.  We are so grateful to all the school families for their participation in this year’s fundraisers.

What did we get from fundraisers this year?  This year we have been able to purchase the following items through our fundraising efforts: high jump pit, volleyball net system, new dividers in the boys’ bathrooms, new fence around the preschool playground (this will be going in over the summer). In addition, money raised has helped defer the cost of education.

Stewardship –  Over the season of Lent we had two stewardship projects throughout the school “Change for Change” and Warm Spirits blanket drive.  As a school we raised $429.00 for “Change for Change”  this money will go directly to communities in Hati.  The Warm Spirits blanket drive collected 104 blankets Warm Spirits will be donating all the collected blankets to Stuff the Duffel.  Stuff the Duffel gives new foster children a duffel bag full of new items as they make their transition to a foster family.

May Crowning – On Friday, May 10 we will honor Mother May at our May Crowning Mass.  Children are invited to sit with their mom, aunt, grandma, and.or family friend for this special Mass.  Immediately following the Mass there will be a Mother’s Day brunch in the Ministry building.

Last Day of School –  Just a reminder that the last day of school is Friday, May 24, 2019.  This is a FULL day of school for the students.

In Faith,
