Principal Notes – August 30, 2019

Dear St. Margaret Mary Families,

Week two down and we are going strong! Thank you to all the parents as we get into the groove of arrival.  It has been going very smooth.  As a reminder, doors open at 8:40 and there is no supervision outside prior to that time.  For the safety of the students, students should not be left unattended at the west doors.

The school office will be closing at 3:45 on Fridays.

Things to Know:

TEST TEXT MESSAGE (Preschool – 8th Grade): Please be sure to update your cell phone carrier on School Speak.  On Tuesday, September 3, a test text message will go out to all families.  Please let the office know if you do not get the message on Tuesday.  The school will no longer use the Remind text messages.

School Speak Directory (Preschool – 8th Grade):  All family information must be updated in School Speak by each individual family.  On Friday, September 6 the directory will go live and information will be available to school families.  If you do not want your information shared you will need to select that option on the family information page.

Grandparents Day (Preschool – 8th Grade): Friday, September 6, 2019, is Grandparents (VIP) Day for all students – Preschool through 8th grade.

Here are some things to know:

  • Students will arrive at school, like normal, and report directly to the classrooms.
  • Grandparents or VIP’s are invited to 9:15 Mass and will have a reserved section in the church.
  • After Mass, students will be walking back to the school with their classmates and the grandparents are welcome to follow students up to the school.
  • From 10:15 – 11:00 grandparents or VIP’s are welcome to visit the classrooms.  In each classroom, there will be snacks and juice for students and their guest.  The teachers have planned activities in the classroom.  If you have multiple students to visit, you can come and go from the rooms as you please.  We do ask that the students stay in their homerooms.
  • This special event will end at 11:00 so that our students can begin their lunch or continue on with their studies.

What to do if your child does not have a grandparent who can attend?   Families are welcome to invite a VIP such as a godparent or an aunt/uncle.

Spirit Wear: It has come to the school’s attention that there is a lot of grey area when it comes to what is permitted on spirit wear days.  We are working on clarifying the policy and will send out additional information once it is available.  In the meantime, in your brown envelopes, is our approved spirit wear options for the 2019-2020 school year.  We have approved t-shirts on the site in RED, NAVY, and GREY.  The wonderful news about this company is they give back directly to the school.  With each item purchased a percentage is given back directly to St. Margaret Mary.  The online store will be open until September 13, 2019.  Items purchased will go directly to the school and will be sent home with your child.

Parent Information Night (Preschool – 8th Grade):  Thursday, September 5, 2019, is Parent Information Night.  This is a wonderful night to get to know the teachers and hear about the direction of the school for the 2019 -2020 school year.  Parent Information Night will start at 6:30 in the gym.  We do ask that parents attend without their children.  We also understand that this can be unavoidable at times,  More information will be coming home early next week with additional information.

** Theme dress passes and school magnets will be sold during Parent Information Night.
Theme Dress Pass = $10.00
Magnets = $5.00

Used Uniforms – Used uniforms are available to all families at no cost.  Uniforms are on display in the meeting room every morning for our families to select uniforms from.  The uniforms will also be available during Parent Information Night.

Oktoberfest: Save the Date September 22 and 21 We are less than a month away from our annual Oktoberfest and our planning committee has been very busy planning great bands, food, and entertainment.   We are still looking for sponsors for the event as well as volunteers.  If you are interested in sponsoring the event please contact Mrs. O’Hearn (bohearn@stmmschool.org).  Volunteers for the event can signup through school speak.  This is a great way to meet new families and get in your stewardship hours. More information will be coming in the weeks to come.

Picture Day (Preschool – 8th Grade):  Monday, September 9, 2019, is Picture Day.  Students can dress their best this day and are not required to be in their uniforms.  Please keep in mind that the attire for the day should be appropriate and follow the dress down day policy.  If you are not sure about what can be worn, please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. O’Hearn directly.

Canceled Event: New Family/Preschool Picnic.  This event will be revised and rescheduled for a later date.

Sports News:

Home and School: Home and School are looking for chairpeople to lead events throughout the year. All chairs would have a Home and School liason you would not be leading the event alone.
